Twelve 'Princess Royal' locomotives were built between 1933 and 1935 for express passenger duties on the LMS routes between London, Birmingham, North West England and Glasgow. The locomotives were the first express locomotive designed by William Stanier following his arrival from the Great Western Railway in 1932. All twelve locomotives were named after Princesses and operated until the early 1960's. Two survive in preservation and have regularly operated across the country on railtour duties. |
