The Standard Class 9F was designed by Robert Riddles to haul fast, heavy, long-distance freight services across the British Rail network. They were one of the most powerful steam locomotive types ever produced in Britain and were incredibly successful in their duties. The final member of the class, No. 92220 “Evening Star”, was also the last steam locomotive produced for British Railways and joins eight other locomotives in preservation. |
