Working level crossing gates

Postby Son of Triangman » 18 Apr 2010 07:09

Hi Folks

A few related questions.

I want to build a working standard GE level crossing. I have the Wills level crossing kit which has correct pattern gates, but I want the gates to work. How do I go about getting the gates moving correctly?

I also want to build a working four gate crossing as well, how would I get the gates to work as per prototype?

Is there anything RTR on the market level crossing wise?

Where will I find suitable mesh for the gates to stop little interlopers getting onto the tracks?

As for the mesh,Wills do fence kits or stretch some womens (or whoevers) tights over an old picture frame and spray with some silver or alloy paint.Once dry and with a bit of practice it should resemble mesh fencing. It should be brittle enough to cut with scissors.(dont ask how I know this)

Yeah, resturants open so quite busy now.Day off so may get a shovel and clear off the layout! Or do a bit on the garden line as its such a fine day.

Hi Frame

Thank you for the info. Do you have a pic or diagram of the actual workings? I have an old Tri-ang unit with the memory wire but it's too valuable to use now. I have a few Wills kits left over from the business so I have decided to experiment by building my own crossings.

I dont sorry. Its not a difficult job, just takes a bit of setting up to your requirements.

In hornby mag a while ago there was an article on this in N but the procedure would be the same,I'll try and find it.
