Anybody know anything about the faller car system and what can be achieved from it with/without PC intergration? Even just a link to a some info/manual would be great.
:)
Thanks,

Hi
I think these videos will show what can be done.
The first videos shown are of course computer controlled models, but the basic vehicle system doesn't have to be PC controlled much the same a model railway locos on DCC don't have to be, as seen in the last clip.
Sorry about the language problem in the first video! :)

Cheers for that flasbang, I originally got it from watching the miniwunderland videos. I meant more in the way of intracasies. Would i be able to controll them using Freiwald Railroad and CO in the same way as a train etc.

I recommend you watch http://www.youtube.com/user/MiWuLaTV?fe ... UqMbtMcECE and the videos after it, they are making an airport lol Blew my mind!

I'm kinda playing with the idea of a freight terminal where trains/lorries transfer containers! :D

Thanks again,
Peter

At the Warley Show in 2008, there was a superb fully operational layout of trams, buses and cars all integrated with a work in progress 00 gauge railway. These were all Faller car system driven; they even wired it up so the traffic stopped as trams approached road crossings. Out of the town scene, where buses and trams shared the same sections of road with cars, tram lines had there dedicated route. If a tram changed direction, even the trolley pole was turned by the wires !

The blokes working on it, have painstakingly put the car system into convertibles, mini's, vans, various bus types and other period vehicles.

An amazing layout.

The idea of a fully operational container base is a great idea. How about Lawley Street in Brum ;)

P.S. I've just watched the minature World airport, Holy minature planes Batman :D

P.P.S. Hornby Magazine did an article of how to install with basic control using the Faller car system

It's a nice system. It's a shame Hornby don't still make the ex-Triang Minic motorways. Today's layouts so often seem dead without working road traffic. If Hornby did their own system, even if it was a re-issue of the old Ti-ang system it would add that extra something to a layout.

Have to say I'm not a great fan of computer control, but for a road system it might be a good idea. Where computer control lets the side down is in the control of rail operations, I went to an exhibition last year and saw a layout where a chap had a PC running his layout, all he was doing was sitting there drinking tea and reading the paper, I walked on and a couple of hours later the guy was still there reading his paper, for me that takes to fun out of operating a railway.

However PC control of the road system seems a good idea, leaving you free to run the trains.

Do faller do a level crossing for OO scale?

not sure about a pre-made crossing but after some research it looks extremely do-able!

I have also seen instances where DCC has been implemented through the use of infrared receivers in the cars and infrared LED's connecting to the track output of a DCC system placed above the layout which sends signals to the cars.

I agree about the computer control though, it can ruin a layout through full automation but if I used it as part of the layout some of the trains, in my case the freight trains, would be operated by myself and signals, other (passenger) trains, and car system would be operated by the computer to allow me to truly play trains.

It would be nice to include a car system in a layout.

Cheers,
Peter
