Eastern Valleys Express Set R1122

R1122 Eastern Valleys Express Trains Set. The rural areas in the East of England benefited in the halcyon days of rail travel of being connected to the big cities by a network of small railways. The LNER could not use its heavy 'crack' Express trains on the'rural lines, opting instead for the more lightweight engines and coaches designed for such railways. These smaller trains which used the older rolling stock would offer a frequent stopping service as they travelled from village to village and town to town!

A lovely passenger set hitting the price mark at the right level. The B12 ran smoothly and the coaches were lovely, these are all former Tri-ang models. The only real bug with the set is the B12 it seems lacking something, the old Tri-ang B12's had smoke and the famous powerful X.04 motor, I found the Hornby version of the old Tri-ang B12 in the set to be very underpowered the little can motor Hornby fit was having a struggle with a twelve coach train that a Tri-ang example just romped away with moments earlier. My example had one coach with a tight coupling hook that wouldn't move and one wheelset was decidedly bent, and a mark to the linning of the loco's tender, things that Quality Control in the factory should have spotted. Otherwise a highly recommended set.
