A nice introduction to DCC, both locos ran well and I wasn't disappointed. As a previous reviewer points out the B12 is "missing something". The B12 loco is underpowered with it's modern can motor and lacks the power of it's Tri-ang predecessors X.04 motor. It also lacks the famous Triang syncrosmoke smoke unit which Tri-ang fitted to this model, in place of the smoke unit a massive weight is now fitted and two weights one each side behind the cab steps.
The J52 ran well but stuttered on pointwork, and is showing it's age as a model.

This is my first foray into DCC, although on the cheap side, I found the over all quality great, the B1 is missing something though.....dont know what but it is, and the metal weights that come with the set ....I have no clue where they go. As for running the locos, The J52, shudders, and does notrun through any point/switch well, forever stalling. (Tracks are laid true and square so thats no the issue). The B1, hmm, good runner, no shudder as the J52, tendency to lock up in reverse though.

I bought an East Coast Set as I got such a good deal on it. For the main part of the set, it's fine. There is enough in the set to keep the interest of any child of 43. The only problem I have encountered, is that the little black train (the J52) lasted a whole two hours before it burnt out, and now must go back to Hornby. Had I been a 10 year old child I would have been devastated

“Please ensure that the items are carefully packed and for your own benefit we would suggest you obtain a Certificate of Posting.”
Surely this will cost almost as much as the train is worth…
